Short Mat
MILFORD SHORT MAT BOWLS
At Milford Bowls Club from September to April, when the outdoor season has finished, we have two short mats in the clubhouse on which we play league games and friendlies. We also have organised roll-ups on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons from 2pm- 4.30pm and Thursday evenings, 7pm-9.30pm, except when we have a league game. Unless we have club social activities scheduled the mats are left down for general practice sessions.
If you have never played short mat then why not come along to one of our Tuesday or Wednesday afternoon sessions and give it a try; if you can’t make those just make contact and we will sort out a time and date for you. It is great fun, and no previous experience or knowledge of bowls is required. The more you play, the better you get and your skill level will grow as you learn techniques and tactics. Short mat bowls is played with the same shoes and bowls as used outdoors. If you haven’t bowled before flat soled shoes are needed, and we can supply bowls for you to borrow. We break for a welcome cup of tea halfway.
If you have played before, then you are welcome to come along and join us, leagues and competitions are aqll back post covid; we are always keen to see new players.
Coaching is available should you want it, for both new and experienced players, it is tailored to needs.

We won the Merrow League in 2022 after a hard fought final game against Normandy who started two points ahead of us but we had a better shot difference. After being level at 17 ends we managed to make two shots to win on the last end.
Anyone who registers for the ESMBA can enter the Surrey and/or National competitions or trial to play for one of the County Squads.
